You guys may think that HC has lost his marbles, but last night I forked out 120 quid on 4 adult Uaru Amphiacanthoides. Since my 'gang' were wiped out in March this year by a nasty strain of velvet that was doing the round, I have been trying to locate (unsuccessfully) a shoal of these interesting, but delicate, fish. This week I was given an offer of 4 adults, all about 6" to 8" standard length, including a spawning pair - this was impossible to refuse!

I have made preparations to bring them 'home' by setting up the new tank (the 300l - tank 14) and setting the pH to 6.5 using API's 'Proper pH'. I will then move the residents of tank 2 into this as a temporary home until the 7 footer arrives (tank 15). This means that I can use the 300 litre tank 2 with UV serilizer, old water, mature filter etc. to house the 'delicate' Uarus until I can move them to the 'new' 7 foot tank.

The question that I have to ask is, "how reliable is the API proper pH product?". I am very pleased generally with products from the API stable, (Rena filters, NitraZorb, Testing kits etc.), but I have never had a great deal of success with pH buffers. The pH always seems to revert back to what it was previously after a couple of days.

Given that Uaru are particularly susceptible to pH fluctuations, sneezes, there being an 'R' in the month, etc., I would like to ensure that I am confident of having a stable environment for them when they are collected from the club.

Does anyone have any advice about using this product that will help me?

Steve
